Malaysian Higher Education Minister and University Presidents Visit the University of Isfahan

A high-level delegation from Malaysia, comprising the Minister of Higher Education, Professor Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, and the presidents of five leading universities, visited the University of Isfahan on October 7, 2023. The visit aimed to foster academic cooperation and exchange between Iran and Malaysia.

The delegation was warmly received by Professor Hossein Harsij, President of the University of Isfahan, who gave a brief introduction of the university’s history, achievements, and internationalization strategies. He expressed his eagerness to collaborate with Malaysian universities in various fields of study and research. He also emphasized the university’s commitment to serving society and civilization, as reflected in its motto. He hoped that the partnership with Malaysian universities would not only enhance scientific and international relations between the two countries but also help address global challenges such as environmental degradation, water scarcity, and regional conflicts.
President Harsij also highlighted the role of Islamic scholars and intellectuals in reviving a contemporary Islamic civilization based on justice, freedom, peace, and equitable development. He announced the university’s readiness to launch a center for Southeast Asian studies and a research hub for water-related issues.
Professor Abdul Razak bin Ahmad, Head of Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), explained the rationale for choosing the University of Isfahan as a partner institution. He praised the university’s academic excellence and research impact at both national and international levels. He outlined the areas of cooperation to include student mobility, joint research projects, and joint efforts to tackle global problems.
Dr. Hashem Dadašpour, Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology, and Head of the Student Affairs Organization, also welcomed the esteemed guests. He pointed out the common interests and potentials between Iranian and Malaysian universities, stressing their capacity to address contemporary issues.
Professor Dato’ Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, the Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, spoke to reporters during the visit. He acknowledged the academic strength of the University of Isfahan and other Iranian universities.
During the visit, six memoranda of understanding were signed between the University of Isfahan and UM, UPM, UKM, UiTM, and UMP universities from Malaysia, as well as EMGS Malaysia.
